How I Overcome Negative Thinking
I'm a true advocate of positivity and the power of positive thinking, especially after reading "The Secret". People often ask me how I stay so positive and upbeat, but the truth is negative thoughts creep in my mind as well. I have days that I feel really low and defeated and not so positive. Days where I don't know how I'm going to overcome or get through my battles, but I have learned how to not stay in that place, nor let it dwell.
Negative thoughts block your brain from completing those difficult task and prevent us from thinking clearly and doing what needs to be done. The truth is there is negativity all around us, but negativity doesn't have to take control of our lives.
Here are some things I do to deal with those negative thoughts, once they creep in:
1. Reading Scriptures and Prayer
These days I have been really needing to turn to the word of God. For me, this is where my strength comes. When I have those bad thoughts, I just pray and open my Bible.
2. Get Around Positive People
Sometimes we don't realize it, but the people you hang around can really effect your thoughts. Stay away from those negative Nancy's and protect your energy!
3. Volunteer
When I volunteer places or help people who are in need, it brings positivity to my life. Sometimes we think we are the only ones going through stuff, when in reality there are people who have it worst.
4. Vacation
Vacation doesn't have to mean a trip across the world or country. Vacation can be a trip in your backyard. Somewhere that you can clear your head from those "negative" thoughts and just unwind. We all need some TLC and it's important to take time for yourself.
5. Seek Professional Help
If need be, it's ok to talk to a professional. I'm not sure where this negative stigmatism came from, but IT IS OK! Sometimes we get too overwhelmed with our negative thinking that it can begin to mentally drain us. Negative thoughts can lead to depression. Depression is a real thing, and should be taken seriously, just as anything else.
In conclusion, we all cope and deal with things differently. However you decide to deal with negative thinking, just make sure you don't stay in that place. The power of your thoughts is a real thing. You attract what you think, and that's word. The universe is listening, just try to keep things as positive as possible.
